URNs & vessels

I make these urns and vessels as fun little sketches. I usually sculpt them while sitting out in the woods next to my camper or on my back deck. They are just little 3D pictures of some of my favorite animals. I chose this format because these are utilitarian. I was a potter before I was a sculptor, so this is just an extension of my love for pottery. They most often have fish on them; I enjoy the incredible variety of fish and love catching them.

Over the years of displaying my small vessels I have had a number of suggestions that I make some larger that could function as urns. I’ve always thought it would be a good idea and so I’ve started a series of urn size vessels. As with my small ones, they generally have a wildlife theme. As I grow older, death of loved ones is becoming more frequent. I am more aware of my own mortality. Making these urns is my way of adding to the celebration of a person's life and legacy. I hope they become memory treasures for many families.
