One of the most incredible things to witness is the elk rut in Rocky Mountain National Park. In late September and October, my family and I used to drive up and park by a meadow to witness the bugling bull elk. The bulls come out and start bugling. It is one of those eerie sounds that sends chills up my spine every time I hear it. If we are lucky, we get to see them spar in a bid to win more cows or to take over a harem. It is an awesome spectacle. This piece is an ode to that event. The antler that is the cross piece is cast from a drop that I found while hiking in the national forest . The legs are made from lodgepole pine which is the dominate tree in forests where elk live.
