Not long ago I had the opportunity to watch a pair of ruby throated hummingbirds build a nest, lay and hatch eggs. They had decided to build the nest on a strand of old Christmas lights just outside the window. The most fascinating thing about it was watching them gather spider silk for the nest. Besides the incredible beauty of this tiny creature is its ability to fly and its symbiotic relationship with flowering plants. I decided to make a bell that is a celebration of the hummingbird but that also is representative of the new dawn. It is a reminder that each day is a new beginning and an opportunity for something better. I also had found this really nice stick that I needed to make into something.
