While snorkeling in the Yucatán I saw a large shell move unexpectedly. Out of curiosity I hovered over it and after a time a tentacle pushed the shell up and an octopus eye peered out of a hole the size of a golf ball. I wasn’t able to hover around long enough to see it come out but have seen footage of octopus squeezing through small openings like that. This piece is inspired by that sighting as well as my wife suggesting I do more work that has a northwest and ocean theme now that I live in Washington state. Octopus remind me to blend in and stay flexible when I need to.
