This little mantel piece depicts a northern pigmy owl. The bell is a moon rising. I am working on a series of smaller pieces that are all about nocturnal animals and this is the first one. The owl on this stick is about life size and is common in the northern rocky mountain region. Owls have been one of the animals that have been a constant companion in my rovings. There have been many summer nights I have been soothed by the call of a great horned or entertained by the antics of territorial burrowing owls. Owls remind me that the night is a wonderful time to be alert and to let my eyes adjust to the moonlight.
