While my daughter and I were in Wisconsin riding our bikes around in Door County, we stopped to look at some things in the woods. I came across a leaf that had been neatly folded into what was clearly a cocoon of some kind. I took a picture and asked a park ranger if they knew what it was and was informed it belonged to a luna moth. That little cocoon inspired me to investigate luna moths. I found out that hickory tree leaves are the catapillars favorite food. This sculpture is about that life cycle and depicts what is one the most beautiful North American moths.
