While kayaking on the Columbia river near my home I see kingfishers often. They are such a great looking bird with the rich slate blue body and white belt. I’m in awe every time I watch them fish. They never seem to miss. I tend to think that is probably because they have honed their skills and don’t dive until they are sure. It reminds me of my dad and other experienced hunters teaching me not to take a shot unless it was clear, in range and I was confident I could make it. (I still missed!) The lesson applies in other parts of life. It often pays to make sure you know what you are doing. This little bell is a rendering of the kingfisher and one of his favorite foods- the stickleback minnow. It has a sweet tone and makes for a great mantel piece.
