In September of 2012 the front range of Colorado experienced a rare rain event which caused catastrophic flooding up and down the front range. One of the small towns that was most impacted was Lyons, Colorado. In commemoration of the tenacity of the community in its recovery from the flood I was commissioned (in collaboration with artist Anita Miller) to create this piece titled “bell of renewal”. It is a depiction of a great horned owl repairing a nest . The bell shows the owlet and the owl in the nest completing the cycle of life. Great horned owls are not great nest builders and usually use the abandoned nests of hawks. This piece is about making an extraordinary effort to recover from adversity. The town of Lyons had to make an extraordinary effort and have become a vibrant and stable community. They agreed to allow it to be a limited edition.
